A member of the Antwerp Six, Dries Van Noten built his house on intellectual layering, textile experimentation, and a deeply personal approach to pattern. 

Unlike trend-driven contemporaries, Van Noten’s work has consistently centered on artisanal fabrication and historical reference filtered through modern proportion.

By the early 2000s, his Paris collections emphasized surface richness and embroidery rooted in global craft traditions. Produced in Belgium during this period, garments reflect a level of atelier control that would later become less centralized as production expanded.

Spring/Summer 2001 stands as a defining era of embroidered mesh and cross-stitched florals — romantic yet precise.

A nude mesh base is densely embroidered with multi-tone cross-stitch florals in reds, pinks, soft blues, and black. The embroidery creates a raised surface against the transparency of the ground, producing depth without heaviness.

The double-layer construction balances delicacy and wearability. A structured grosgrain waistband anchors the piece, while concealed internal finishing reflects Van Noten’s meticulous tailoring standards.

The result is romantic but disciplined — decorative yet architecturally controlled.

The asymmetrical front closure enhances movement and directional tension. The light grey stretch wool allows the garment to maintain structure while contouring naturally to the body.
